Introduction to Greek – A Journey Through Language and Culture

Embark on a captivating linguistic and cultural journey through Greece with our ”Introduction to Greek” course! This 2-week program, will introduce you to the fundamentals of the Greek
language and culture in a dynamic and interactive way. Classes will meet daily for 120 minutes, offering a perfect balance between theory and practice.

Using the book Trip in Greece – Ταξίδι στην Ελλάδα, you’ll explore essential grammar, vocabulary, and everyday phrases, while also gaining insight into Greek culture, traditions, and the
country’s rich history.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a basic understanding of Greek, be able to navigate simple conversations, and feel inspired to continue your journey into the language. Join us and
let’s take the first step together in learning Greek, one word at a time!

ΑΒΓ (ABC)
Lesson 1: An introduction to the Greek alphabet: Pronunciation and stressing. Basic diphthongs.

Γειά σου! (Hello!)
Lesson 2: Greetings, presenting myself, numbers 0-10, the verb είμαι (to be), personal pronouns, Type A Verbs in Present like μένω.

Στην Ελλάδα μιλάμε ελληνικά! (In Greece we speak Greek)
Lesson 3: Τalk about my personal information: name, telephone, address, e-mail etc.), numbers 11-100, classroom and studying vocabulary, the three genders of the nouns
(nominative case, singular), the definite article ο, η, το and the indefinite article ένας, μία, ένα, the nationalities and languages, type B1 Verbs in Present like σπουδάζω.

Οικογένεια και εργασία (Family and work)
Lesson 4: Family and professions vocabulary, answering the question Πόσων χρονών είσαι; (How old are you?), the possessive pronouns, the interrogative pronoun (ποιος, ποια,
ποιο, nominative case, singular) (who), demonstrative pronouns (αυτός, αυτή, αυτό και εκείνος, εκείνη, εκείνο, nominative case, singular) (this/that), adjectives (endings in -ος,
-η, -ο/ ος, -α, -ο, nominative case, singular)

Το καθημερινό προγραμμα (The everyday schedule)
Lesson 5: Αppointment for coffee, learn the time, the seasons, the weather, the days and the months, every day vocabulary, numbers 100-1.000.000, the verbs πάω (to go), ακούω (to
listen), λέω (to say), τρώω (to eat), κοιμάμαι (to sleep), adverbs of frequency.

Lesson 6: Strolling around the city, transportation vocabulary, type B2 Verbs in Present, nouns and adjectives in the accusative form, in singular, the interrogative pronoun (ποιος, ποια, ποιο,
accusative case, singular) (who), demonstrative pronouns (αυτός, αυτή, αυτό και εκείνος, εκείνη, εκείνο, accusative case, singular) (this/that).

Πόσο κάνει; (How much does it cost?)
Lesson 7: At the supermarket, market, kiosk, food related vocabulary, indefinite article (nominative and accusative), numbers, πόσοι, πόσες, πόσα (how many) πολλοί, πολλές πολλά (many) αρκετοί, αρκετές, αρκετά (enough) λίγοι, λίγες, λίγα (a few), nouns in plural (nominative and accusative cases), adjectives (nominative and accusative cases).

Πάμε για ψώνια; (Shall we go shopping?)
Lesson 8: Clothes, shoes and accessories vocabulary, colors, patterns, fabrics, materials, expressing my taste, vocabulary related to our body, expressions μου αρέσει (I like), μου πάει(it
suits me, it looks good on me), μου κάνει (it fits me), colors, patterns, fabric and material adjectives, interrogating and demonstrative pronouns (nominative and accusative cases), the
word που (that).

Καλορίζικο! (Congratulations on your new…)
Lesson 9: Vocabulary: announcements, houses, give and receive instructions on the street, Type C1 (σκέφτομαι) and C2 Verbs (θυμάμαι), personal pronoun in the accusative form,
adverbs of place.

Στην υγειά μας! (Cheers!)
Lesson 10: Write a recipe, Vocabulary about food and drinks, How to order something, words and phrases in the Future Tense, adjectives with endings in -ος, -ια/ -η, -ο.
